CATER SETS WIN MARK, SHEPHERD RUNS PAST GLENVILLE

(SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV) -- Shepherd College amassed 513 yards of total offense en route to a 35-21 win over Glenville in WVIAC football action at Homecoming at Ram Stadium. Shepherd head coach Monte Cater (105-57-1) surpassed Walter Barr (104-48-4) as the school's all-time winningest football coach.

Alex Herbert (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) rushed 26 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns and Michael Walker (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) added 129 yards and a score on 24 carries to pace the SC ground game. Senior quarterback Joel Gordon (Waynesboro, VA/Waynesboro) completed 16-of-25 passes for 212 yards, including touchdown strikes to Jamal Gardner (Staunton, VA/Robert E. Lee) (11 yards) and Jesse Correll (Calvert/Port Republic, MD) (40 yards).

Gordon set Shepherd career records for passing yards (6,781, old mark Chad Broadwater (1994-97) - 6,583) and touchdown passes (62, old mark shared with Broadwater - 60).

The Shepherd defense was led by senior linebacker Luke Benchoff (Williamsport/Williamsport, MD). Benchoff recorded a team-high 10 tackles with a tackle-for-loss and a forced fumble.

Senior kicker Kevin Burkey (Urbana/Ijamsville, MD) was successful on all five extra point attempts and became the WVIAC's all-time leader in career extra points with 137, surpasiing the old mark of132 that he shared with Fairmont State's Nathan White.

Shepherd quarterback Joel Gordon owns virtually every Shepherd career passing mark.
