SHEPHERD BLANKS WESLEYAN, 51-0 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Sophomore running back Dervon Wallace (Lusby, MD/WV State) rushed 19 times for 141 yards and three touchdowns to lead 15th-ranked Shepherd University to a 51-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC football action at Cebe Ross Field on Saturday. Shepherd opened the scoring at the 8:35 mark in the first quarter on a five-yard scoring run by Wallace to take a 6-0 lead. The extra point attempt by junior kicker Ricky Schmitt (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem HS) was no good. The Rams took a 13-0 at the 2:42 mark of the first quarter when Wallace weaved his way through the Bobcat defense for a 52-yard touchdown gallop. Wallace added his third score of the day on a 15-yard scamper with 13:59 left in the second quarter to increase the lead to 19-0 when Schmittıs PAT attempt was blocked. Junior quarterback Dan Chlebowski (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim HS), who completed 11-of-20 passes for 194 yards, teamed with sophomore wide receiver Mark Springirth on an nine-yard scoring pass with 8:45 left in the second quarter. Chlebowski dove in the end zone for a two-point conversion to give the Rams a 27-0 lead. Junior defensive end Andre Henderson (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt HS) scored on an interception in the end zone to give the Rams a 34-0 lead with 8:27 left in the half. Chlebowski connected with redshirt-freshman running back C.J. King (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills HS) on a 71-yard scoring play to up the Ram lead a 41-0 with 3:56 remaining in the half. Redshirt-freshman running back Vincent Riggs (Poolesville, MD/Poolesville HS) scored on a five-yard run with1:56 left in the second quarter to give the Rams a 48-0 advantage at halftime. Schmitt booted a 28-yard field goal for the game's final points with 10:08 left in the contest. The Ram defense limited Wesleyan to 112 yards of total offense. They also held Bobcat quarterback Marc Kimes to a 9-of-32 day for 64 yards with four interceptions. Senior defensive end Dan Gallagher (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin HS) led the Ram defensive charge with seven tackles, including six solo stops and a pair of tackles-for-loss. Junior free safety Dan Peters (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria HS) paced the Rams secondary with a pair of interceptions. Shepherd improves to 9-0, 6-0 in conference play, while West Virginia Wesleyan 3-6, 2-4. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they host West Liberty for Homecoming at 1:00 p.m. Notes: Dervon Wallace had a busy day in the Rams record books. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season and now has 1,044 yards on the year and he rushed for 100 yards or more for the sixth time this season. Wallace also set the Ram single season scoring mark with 132 points, passing the old mark of All-American Damian Beane (116, 1998). Wallace's 22 touchdowns on the year set a new single-season scoring mark, while his 21 rushing TDs also set a new Shepherd single season record. |
