SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd University head football coach Monte Cater recently announced that five more football players have signed letters-of-intent to play football for the Rams in 2006. Among the group are three players from Maryland and two from Virginia.
Nick Clements (Hagerstown, MD/St. James), an offensive tackle, was a two-sport athlete (football, lacrosse) at St. James. Clements served as team captain and also earned All-Conference and All-County honors.
Bryan Hansel (Cumberland, MD/Allegany HS), a linebacker-tight end, was a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball) at Allegany. He played football for former Ram Tom Preaskorn. Hansel helped lead Allegany to the Maryland Class 1A state title in 2005. He was a First Team All-State linebacker was also named Cumberland Times-News Player of the Year.
Douglas Jackson (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS), an outside linebacker, was a three-sport (football, basketball, and track) athlete at Sherando. Jackson was a two-time All-District and All-Area selection.
Kain Metz (Cumberland, MD/Fort Hill HS), a linebacker/fullback, was a two-sport athlete (football, baseball) at Fort Hill. He played football for former Ram Barry Lattimer. Metz earned Second Team All-Area and Second Team CVAL honors as a junior.
Will Wheeler (Chantilly, VA/Westfield HS), a defensive end, lettered in football, lacrosse, and swimming at Westfield. Wheeler was a two-time First Team All-District choice and a member of two state champion football teams.
