SHEPHERD FOOTBALL ADDS TEN

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd University head football coach Monte Cater recently announced that 10 more student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play football for the Rams in 2006. Among the group are four players from Virginia, three from West Virginia, two from Maryland, and one from Florida.

Christopher Daly (Coral Springs, FL/Coral Springs HS), a fullback, was a two-sport athlete (football, track) at Coral Springs. Daly, a four-year starter in football, earned All-County honors and was also voted Team MVP.

Robert Fields (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS), a linebacker, was a three-year letterwinner in football at Martinsburg. Fields, a two-time All-Area selection, led the Bulldogs in tackles in his junior and senior years.

Zachary Kandrick (Winchester, VA/James Wood HS), a tight end, lettered in football and basketball at James Wood. Kandrick was a two-time All-District choice in both sports.

Matthew Lyda (Berkeley Springs, WV/Berkeley Springs HS), a linebacker, was a three-sport (football, baseball, track) athlete at Berkeley Springs. Lyda was also a standout in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society.

Patrick Purcell (Herndon VA/Oakton HS), a defensive back, was a two-year letterwinner in football at Oakton. Purcell was a First Team All-District and Second Team All-Met selection.

Sean Purcell (Herndon VA/Oakton HS), a defensive back, was a three-year letterwinner in football at Oakton. Purcell earned Second Team All-District honors.

Jacob Seeley (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS), an offensive/defensive lineman, was a member of two state runner-up teams for the Bulldogs. Seeley will rejoin Bulldog teammate Robert Fields as a member of the Rams.

Zachary Shoemaker (Hagerstown, MD/Boonsboro HS), a defensive back, was a three-year letter winner in football at Boonsboro. A First Team All-Area choice, Shoemaker gained Honorable Mention All-State honors.

Brandon Twele (Front Royal, VA/Warren County HS), a punter/holder, was a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, soccer) at Warren County. Twele gained All-Academic Northwestern District honors.

Donavin Vinson (LaVale, MD/Allegany HS), a defensive back, was three-sport athlete (football, basketball, track) at Allegany. He was a two-time All State selection and played on the 2005 state championship team.
