SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd University head football coach Monte Cater recently announced that nine football players have signed letters-of-intent to play football for the Rams in 2006. Among the group are six players from Maryland and three from Virginia.
Kevin Clancy (Westminster, MD/Westminster HS), a quarterback, was a two-sport athlete (football, basketball) at Westminster. Clancy earned All-State and All-Metro Player of the Year accolades.
Geoffrey Fry (Frederick, MD/Frederick HS), an offensive lineman, was a three-sport (football, wrestling, and lacrosse) athlete at Frederick. Fry was selected to play in the Super 22 All-Star game.
Justin Hollaway (Chesapeake, VA/Western Branch HS), an offensive lineman, lettered in football and track at Western Branch. Hollaway earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for his standout play against Great Bridge.
Robert Humphries (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson HS), a linebacker/running back, was a three-sport (football, basketball, lacrosse) athlete at Frederick. Humphries was All-Area Defensive Player of the Year and a Second Team All-State selection at linebacker.
Johnathan Maksanty (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge Senior HS), a tight end, lettered in football and basketball at Woodbridge. Maksanty was a First Team All-District and First Team All-Region choice at tight end.
Patrick McClain (Falls Church, VA/Marshall HS), a wide receiver, was a three-sport standout (football, basketball, baseball) at Marshall. McClain was a First Team All-District choice at wide receiver.
Ryan Payne (Westminster, MD/Westminster HS), a wide receiver, was a two-sport athlete (football, track) at Westminster. A First Team All-County and All-Conference choice, Payne gained Second Team All-State honors.
Brian Taylor (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach HS), a linebacker, was a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball) at Long Reach. Taylor earned Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-State honors.
James Washington (Columbia, MD/Long Reach HS), a defensive end, earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors at Long Reach. He was a First Team All-County selection.
