PETERS, WALLACE EARN FOOTBALL GAZETTE ALL-AMERICA HONORS; PETERS NAMED DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE YEAR

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Junior free safety Dan Peters (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria HS) and sophomore running back Dervon Wallace (Lusby, MD/Calvert HS) of the Shepherd University football team were named to the 2005 Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America team. Peters, a first team selection, was also named Defensive Back of the Year. Wallace was an honorable mention choice.

Peters set a new Shepherd and WVIAC single season mark for interceptions with 12 on the year. He also led the nation in interceptions. Peters recorded 57 tackles with 30 solo stops. He also added two tackles-for-loss (-3 yards) and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Wallace rushed for 1,389 yards and set new Shepherd single season marks for most points (162), most touchdowns (27) and most rushing touchdowns (26). His 162 points set also set a new WVIAC single season record. Wallace did not become a starter until midway through the season.

This marks the 18th year Don Hansen's Football Gazette, a recognized authority on small college football, has selected an NCAA Division II All-America team. The national publication selected All-Regions teams with the first-team and second-team All-Region players from each of the four geographic regions (Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest) making up the national ballot, which was voted on by a 25-member national panel.

A total of 155 players earned some form of Football Gazette All-America honors. Players from 68 of the 150 football-playing schools in Division II earned Football Gazette All-America accolades.
