![]() JARVIS, VIOLAND GAIN NSCA ALL-AMERICAN HONORS COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Junior defensive back Bobby Jarvis (Richmond, VA/ Hermitage HS) and senior offensive lineman Jimmy Violand (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills HS) of the Shepherd University football team were recently selected by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as 2006 NSCA All-American Athletes. Jarvis was nominated by former Shepherd strength and conditioning coach Pete Yurish. "Bobby has never missed a workout during his collegiate career," noted Yurish. "He has used strength and conditioning as his edge to compete. His work ethic has been so well perceived by his teammates that he has been a two-year team captain and will most certainly be a three-year captain. He works extremely hard to motivate his teammates to improve their work ethic. Bobby has been the anchor of two consecutive conference championship teams. He aspires to one day become a strength and conditioning coach. It has been my pleasure to coach him!" Violand was nominated by former Shepherd strength and conditioning assistant Parker Whiteman. "Jimmy has dedicated himself to the weight room for the past four years," stated Whiteman. "Through his hard work Jimmy has overcome two knee surgeries to become one of the best lineman in the West Virginia Conference. He has been a three-year starter and has been named to the All-Conference team for those three years. His teammates chose him as one of the team captains for the 2005 season. Jimmy is a true leader when it comes to off the field activities. During off-season conditioning he was the first person to call or go get a teammate out of bed if they were late. Many times when the team was not having a good day Jimmy would give speeches in order to light a fire under the team. The mental and physical strength he developed during his participation in the strength and conditioning program allowed him to dominate the opposing defensive lineman." The NSCA All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 27th year and is made possible by a grant from Powers Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tennessee fitness product leader. ![]() |
