 VIOLAND PLAYS IN CACTUS BOWL KINGSVILLE, Tex. - Shepherd University offensive lineman Jimmy Violand (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills HS) participated in the Cactus Bowl on Friday night as a member of the East squad. Violand's teammate, Glenville State quarterback Joey Conrad, tied a Cactus Bowl record with three touchdown passes for the East squad in a 49-33 loss. Conrad, who owns the NCAA Division II total offense and passing yardage marks, completed 14 of 27 passes with no interceptions for 135 yards during the sixth annual D-II all-star contest. The West's victory ended a streak of three East wins in the past four games. The annual Cactus Bowl is the lone postseason all-star game which is made up of Division II schools only. Proceeds of the January matchup benefit the Shriner's Children's Hospital. |
