(SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV) -- Junior running back Travis Lynch (Frankfort/Ridgeley, WV) rushed for a career-high 190 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries to lead Shepherd to a 33-26 win over East Stroudsburg in football action at Ram Stadium.

The Rams moved out to a 7-0 early in the first quarter when Lynch scored on a seven-yard run at the 8:54 mark.

The Rams extended their lead to 14-0 with 12:24 left in the second quarter when junior quarterback Joel Gordon (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, VA) teamed with senior tight end Rob Cunningham (Sherwood/Olney, MD) on a six-yard scoring play.

Junior kicker Kevin Burkey (Urbana/Ijamsville, MD) connected on a career-long 43 yard field goal in the final seconds of the first half to give the Rams a 17-0 lead at the intermission.

East Stroudsburg stormed back in the second half.

Warrior quarterback Jeremy Palm connected with Justin Kondikoff on a 16-yard scoring pass and later teamed with John Kotarsky on a 30-yard scoring play to cut the deficit to 17-13 late in the third quarter.

Burkey connected on his second field goal of the day (30 yards) as time expired in the third stanza.

Warrior running back Andre Castiglioni scored on a 13-yard run with 12:39 left in regulation to tie the game at 20-20.

Minutes later Shepherd retook the lead when freshman running back Alex Herbert (Urbana/Monrovia, MD) raced 27 yards for a score to give Shepherd a 27-20 lead.

Palm connected with Chris Bath on a six-yard pass play to pull the Warriors to within 27-26. Mike Berry's extra point attempt failed.

Shepherd's final score came with 1:10 remaining on a 51-yard pass from Gordon to senior All-American candidate Jason Dirting (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV). Burkey's extra point attempt was blocked by Jeremy Brown.

East Stroudsburg had one more chance to possibly force the game into overtime for the third straight year, but a fourth-and-six pass at the Shepherd 47-yard line fell incomplete with 51 seconds left in the game.

Gordon completed 15-of-30 passes for 252 yards for the day.

Dirting became Shepherd's all-time leading receiver with four catches for 95 yards. His 119 career receptions surpass the old mark of 115 held by Kelvin Stevens (1993-97).

The Ram defense was led by senior strong safety Tyron Shelby (Eleanor Roosevelt/Greenbelt, MD) with a team-high nine tackles including six solos. Redshirt freshman outside linebacker Ron Frazier (Gaithersburg/Gaithersburg, MD) and sophomore cornerback Freddie DelVillar (Seneca Valley/Germantown, MD) each added seven stops. DelVillar and freshman cornerback Terrance Jenkins (Hayfield/Lorton, VA) each posted a team-best four pass breakups.

Shepherd improves to 4-0, while East Stroudsburg falls to 2-1. The Rams will have the week off before traveling to Fairmont State on October 6 for a 1:00 p.m. game.
