SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Senior defensive back/return specialist James Rooths (Carver/Baltimore, MD) recorded his first career touchdown catch and picked off two Concord passes to lead Shepherd to a 24-22 win over Concord in football action at Ram Stadium.

The Rams moved out to a 17-3 halftime lead behind a 25-yard field goal from Kevin Burkey (Urbana/Ijamsville, MD), a seven-yard run by Dalevon Smith (Dos Palos (Merced JC)/Beaverton, OR), and Rooths' 29-yard touchdown reception.

Concord got on the board on a 36-yard field goal from Lee Greene with one second left in the first half.

The Rams moved out to a 24-3 lead with 9:26 left in the game when sophomore quarterback Joel Gordon (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, VA) teamed with senior wide receiver Shane Snyder (James Wood (VA)/Fairfield, PA) on a 21-yard scoring play.

The Mountain Lions rallied behind the passing of Tyler Hull. Hull connected on three fourth quarter touchdown passes, but a blocked extra point by Shepherd senior linebacker Chanse Twyman (Keyser/Piedmont,WV) and a failed two-point conversion play gave Shepherd the narrow victory.

Smith rushed for 91 yards on 27 carries. Gordon completed 16-of-26 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Snyder had five receptions for 164 yards.

Shepherd improves to 3-1, 1-0 in WVIAC play, while Concord falls to 2-3, 0-1. The Rams will travel to face WVU-Tech next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. game.
