WESLEYAN RALLIES PAST SHEPHERD

PRINCETON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan scored four runs in the final two innings to pull away for a 7-4 win over Shepherd University in first day action of the WVIAC Baseball Tournament at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of thethird inning, Shepherd plated two runs to tie the score. Junior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/Potomac State) singled and junior catcher David Toth (Lexington, KY/Lexington Christian Academy/Potomac State) blasted a home run to left field.

Shepherd took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when sophomore first baseman Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) launched a solo blast to center field.

The Bobcats tied the score in the fifth when Christian Rosado walked and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Robert Prim.

Wesleyan took the lead for good in the eighth when Justin Rozich singled home Prim.

The Bobcats added three more insurance runs in the ninth and Shepherd added a run in the bottom of the frame on a solo blast by Nicky Brown.

Nicky Brown, Steve Kozak, and junior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) each had two hits for the Rams.

David Beach earned a complete game win with 10 strikeouts for the Bobcats, while junior starter Scott McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS/Potomac State) took the loss for the Rams.
