SHEPHERD SWEEPS BOBCATS

BUCKHANNON, WV -- Shepherd College swept West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action at Wesleyan. The Rams earned a 9-2 win in the first game and rallied for a 10-6 win in the nightcap.

Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) scattered five hits and went the distance to record his sixth win of the year in game one. He had six strikeouts and allowed only two walks. Joel Rasor took the loss for Wesleyan.

Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) and Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) each had home runs for the Rams. Spry had a solo shot in the third, while Drummond belted a grand slam in the seventh.

The Rams rallied for a 10-6 win in the nightcap behind a six-run seventh inning. The Rams smacked five hits in the inning -- highlighted by Drummond's two-run single to tie the game and Jake Ellifritz's (Keyser (Potomac State/Coastal Carolina)/Keyser, WV)game-winning RBI-single.

Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV) and Drummond led Shepherd with three hits each, while Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, PA) added a pair of hits.

Shepherd starter Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) improved to 3-0 with the win. Jackson tossed 6 1/3 innings before giving way to Justin Collins (Fallston/Forest Hill, MD). Collins earned his first save of the year when he shut the door on Wesleyan with a 6-4-3 double play to end the game. Joe Honce suffered the loss for the Bobcats.

Shepherd moves to 21-6-1, 10-2 in WVIAC play, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 17-13-1, 8-5-1. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to face West Virginia State for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
