SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va -- Shepherd swept WVU-Tech in WVIAC doubelheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. The Rams pounded out 11 hits in game one en route to a 15-6 win and limited the Golden Bears to juts three hits in the nightcap for a 5-2 triumph. Head coach Wayne Riser reached the 250-win mark with the pair of wins.
Jake Ellifritz (Keyser (Potomac State/Coastal Carolina)/Keyser, WV), Preston Miller (Turner Ashby/Harrisonburg, VA), and Zac Couturiaux (Linganore (Allegany College)/Union Bridge, MD) each had two hits to lead the Rams in game one. Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) and Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) each belted three-run homers.
J.R. Fitzwater (Hedgesville (Potomac State)/Hedgesville, WV) tossed the first four innings and picked up his fifth win of the year. Monte Spurgeon (Hedgesville/Hedgesville, WV) worked the final three innings.
Drummond smacked a three-run triple in the fifth inning to help lift the Rams to a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
Miller gained his sixth win of the season with relief help from Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD). The duo combined on a three-hitter.
Shepherd improves to 28-7-1, 17-3 in WVIAC play, while Tech falls to 11-26, 3-15. The Rams will host Fairmont State on Monday with doubleheader action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
