SHEPHERD FALLS TO STATE

Brian Renner allowed only five hits in a complete game loss to West Virginia State.

PRINCETON, WV -- West Virginia State handed Shepherd a 3-0 loss in second day action of the WVIAC Tournament at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.

State pitcher Dana Samples scattered seven hits and had five strikeouts in a complete game win.

Shepherd starter Brian Renner (Winchester, VA/Handley) allowed only five hits in suffering the complete game loss.

Lee May hit a sacrifice fly to score Tim Shilling to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.

Tom Pearce belted a two-run homer in the eight to extend the State lead to 3-0.

Mike Spry (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) went 3-for-4 to lead the Rams. Zac Couturiaux (Union Bridge, MD/Linganore) added a 2-for-3 effort.

Shepherd falls to 33-9-1, while West Virginia State improves to 27-18.
