INSTITUTE, WV -- Shepherd College split with West Virginia State in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action at State. The Rams took a 6-5 victory in the first game and State answered with a 10-5 win in the nightcap.
Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) led the Rams in game one with three hits, including a three-run homer in the third inning.
Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) worked the final two innings to improve to 4-0 on the year. State starter Scott Patterson took the loss.
State stormed out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap en route to a 10-5 victory for the split.
Tim Shilling earned the win for the Yellow Jackets, while J.R. Fitzwater (Hedgesville (Potomac State)/Hedgesville, WV) suffered the loss for the Rams.
Jake Ellifritz (Keyser (Potomac State/Coastal Carolina)/Keyser, WV) led the Rams with a three-run homer in the second. Ellifritz had four hits on the day.
Shepherd moves to 22-7-1, 11-3 in WVIAC play, while West Virginia State is now 19-16, 13-3. The Rams continue on the road to face Bluefield State on Sunday. Doubleheader action will begin at 1:00 p.m.
