PRINCETON, W. Va. -- Shepherd ralllied from a 6-0 deficit to edge West Liberty with a 7-6 win in second day action of the WVIAC Tournament at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.
Trailing 6-0 in the top of the fifth inning, Shepherd cut the Hilltopper lead in half courtesy of a three-run blast to left off the bat of Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD).
The Rams tied the game at 6-6 behind four singles and a pair of walks in the top of the sixth.
Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV) led off the eight with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored the game-winner on a single from Brian Powell (Allegany (Allegany College)/Cumberland, MD).
Powell led the Rams with a 4-for 4 performance and a pair of RBI. Spry was 2-for-3, while Taylor added a 3-for-6 outing. Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, PA) also contributed a pair of hits for the Rams.
Justin Collins (Fallston/Forest Hill, MD/) tossed one-hit shutout ball over the final 5 2/3 innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. West Liberty reliever Justin Ferrell took the loss for the Rams.
Shepherd improves to 34-9-1, while West Liberty falls to 22-23.
