SHEPHERD TROUNCES WEST LIBERTY

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV --Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS) belted three home runs to lead Shepherd to a 20-2 win over West Liberty in WVIAC baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Fairfax Field. Shepherd accumulated 21 hits and five home runs in the victory.

Drummond smacked two-run blasts in the first, second, and sixth innings for the Rams. Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) added a grand slam in the third, while Jon Serrano (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) had a two-run round-tripper in the first.

Several Rams had big days at the plate. Drummond, Cook, Jason Walck (Waynesboro, PA/ Waynesboro HS), Josh Delawder (Paw Paw, WV/Paw Paw HS/Potomac State), Norris Roy (Gambrills, MD/Arundel HS/Hagerstown CC) all had three hits. Drummond drove in six runs, Serrano plated five, while Cook added four RBIs. Walck, Drummond, and Cook scored four times each.

Brian Dennison went 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of walks to pace the Hilltoppers. Mike Darrah (2-4) added a double and a single, while Matt Garman and James Gaskins each drove in a run.

Scott Koscielniak (Severn, MD/Old Mill HS/CCBC-Catonsville) scattered four hits over six innings and allowed only one earned run to pick up the win for the Rams. Hilltopper starter Ted Robinson suffered the loss.

Shepherd improves to 14-14 overall, 4-5 in WVIAC play, while West Liberty falls to 11-21, 4-4. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Millersville University for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.

NOTES: Shepherd set a new single game mark with 40 total bases, eclipsing the old mark of 36 set in 1984 against West Virginia Tech. The 20-run outing against West Liberty marks the sixth time the Rams have scored 20 runs or more in a game in the Riser era. The 18-run scoring margin is the fourth highest under Riser.
