SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Zac Couturiaux (Linganore (Allegany College)/Union Bridge, MD) smacked a two-out single to score Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Shepherd to a 7-6 win over West Liberty in first day action of the WVIAC Baseball Tournament at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton.
Ellifritz, Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD), Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV), Jason Walck (Waynesboro/ Waynesboro, PA) and Brian Powell (Allegany (Allegany College)/Cumberland, MD) each had two hits to lead the Rams. Ellifritz hit the only home run of the game, a solo shot in the seventh.
Shepherd starter Preston Miller (Turner Ashby/Harrisonburg, VA) allowed only one earned run over the first six innings. Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD), who worked the final two innings improved to 6-0 on the year with the win. Hilltopper reliever Jeremy Steenstra took the loss.
Shepherd improves to 33-8-1, while West Liberty falls to 21-22.
