SHEPHERD BASEBALL TAKES PAIR FROM WHEELING JESUIT

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Shepherd University swept a four-game set with Wheeling Jesuit University in WVIAC baseball action with a pair of wins at Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday. The Rams scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to gain an 8-5 win in game one and posted a 16-hit attack in the nightcap en route to a 14-1 win.

Junior outfielder John Hawse (Winchester, VA/James Wood HS/Potomac State) went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs to pace the Rams in game one. Freshman third baseman Andrew McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS) added a 2-for-5 effort.

Sophomore Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) worked the final four innings to improve to 2-0 on the year. Jeremy Redding took the loss for the Cardinals.

Senior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the Rams in the nightcap. Senior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) added a 3-for-4 outing with five RBIs, while Hawse also added three hits.

Senior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/ Hedgesville HS/Potomac State) and junior catcher Matt Noll (Charles Town, WV/ Jefferson HS) each added a pair of hits.

Junior starter Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) scattered five hits to improve to 3-0. Tommy Weidman suffered the loss for Wheeling Jesuit.

Shepherd improves to 25-9 overall, 12-2 in conference play, while Wheeling Jesuit drops to 5-24, 3-9. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Ohio Valley for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
