SHEPHERD BASEBALL SWEEPS WHEELING JESUIT

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Shepherd University swept Wheeling Jesuit University in WVIAC baseball action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday. The Rams used a 14-hit attack en route to a 16-3 win in game one and earned the sweep with a 9-2 victory in the nightcap.

Senior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) went 3-for-6 with four RBIs to lead the Rams in game one. Junior outfielder John Hawse (Winchester, VA/James Wood HS/Potomac State) added a 2-for-5 effort with three RBIs, while senior catcher David Toth (Lexington, KY/Lexington Christian Academy/Potomac State) was 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Senior starter Scott McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS/Potomac State) picked up his seventh win of the year. Senior reliever Brady Catlett (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/New Hampshire) worked the final inning for the Rams. Cody Stickdorn took the loss for the Cardinals.

Collin Brown led off the nightcap with a solo blast and freshman third baseman Andrew McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS) belted a grand slam to key a five-run first inning for the Rams.

Senior pitcher Chris Anderson (Middletown, MD/Middletown HS/Hagerstown CC) (7-1) gained the win with relief help from sophomore Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport HS). Ricky Szeligo suffered the loss for Wheeling Jesuit.

Shepherd improves to 23-9 overall, 10-2 in conference play, while Wheeling Jesuit drops to 5-22, 3-7. The two teams return to action on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
