SHEPHERD BASEBALL DOWNS WINGATE, 6-2

WINGATE, N.C. -- Shepherd University downed Wingate University, 6-2, in baseball action on Tuesday night at Christopher Stadium. The victory was the fifth straight for the Rams.

Sophomore first baseman Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs, while senior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) added a 2-for-5 effort with a run scored. Junior first baseman John Hawse (Winchester, VA/James Wood HS/Potomac State) added a 3-for-4 outing with a run scored.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning, Shepherd took the lead with three runs on four hits. Webb's two-run single keyed the rally.

The Rams added three insurance runs in the eighth to seal the win. Senior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/ Potomac State) reached base on a error that allowed two runs to score. Senior shortstop Ryan Brady (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic HS/Hagerstown CC) later plated Brown with an RBI-single.

Freshman pitcher Brandon Armentrout (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) picked up the win to improve to 2-1. Josh Benton (0-4) took the loss for the Bulldogs.

Shepherd improves to 12-5, while Wingate falls to 9-19. The two teams return to action on Wednesday with doubleheader action starting at 4:00 p.m.
