PRINCETON, W.Va. -Tyler Boswell (Martinsburg/Martinsburg, WV) of the Shepherd College men's basketball team and Elizabeth (Liz) Lowrie (Urbana (MD)/Monrovia, MD) of the women's cross country team were recently honored by the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as BB&T/WVIAC Scholar-Athlete Award winners.
Boswell, a senior guard, boasts a 3.63 grade point average with a double major of business administration and political science, while Lowrie carries a 3.65 grade point average as a secondary education/physical education major.
Each WVIAC member is represented by the male and female student-athletes who hold the top grade point average at their school. Honorees must have reached junior or senior status.
"It gives me great pleasure to recognize the BB&T Scholar Athlete winners," stated WVIAC commissioner Barry Blizzard. "This award symbolizes the finer points of intercollegiate athletics. These student-athletes are to be commended for their hard work balancing academic achievement in the classroom and competition on the playing field."
Boswell and Lowrie were recently recognized at the WVIAC Basketball Tournament in Charleston in early March.
