SOUTHERN VIRGINIA EDGES RAMS

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Southern Virginia edged Shepherd College, 7-5, in baseball action on Saturday afternoon at Patchin Field.

All seven Southern Virginia came via the long ball. Paul Lawrence stroked a three-run homer in the first inning, while B. J. Hanley had a three-run shot and Nate Sharp added a solo homer in the third.

Shane Wines (Warren County/ Front Royal, VA) had three hits, including a double, to lead the Rams. Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) and Joe Cook (Loudoun County/Leesburg, VA) added two hits each for the Rams.

Ram starter Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) took the loss, while Fritz Zweigart gained the victory for the Knights. Brian Chevalier (Herndon/Herndon, VA) tossed two scoreless innings in relief.

Shepherd falls to 7-11 on the year. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Salem International at 1:00 p.m.
