RAMS SPLIT WITH ST. VINCENT

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University split a doubleheader with St. Vincent in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Thursday. The Bearcats took game one with a 5-4 win, while Shepherd gained the split with a 10-7 victory in the nightcap.

Josh Morrow went 2-for-4 and Kip Watkins went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to pace the Bearcats in game one.

Sophomore first baseman Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) went 3-for-3 to lead the Rams. Junior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/ Potomac State) and junior shortstop Ryan Brady (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic HS/Hagerstown CC) each added a pair of hits for the Rams.

Sophomore reliever Todd Coder (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge HS) took the loss for the Rams, while Christian Necheff picked up the win for St. Vincent. Bearcat reliever Brad Sanders worked the final two innings to gain the save.

The Rams smacked 12 hits en route to a 10-7 win in the nightcap.

Nicky Brown and junior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) each had three hits to pace the Rams. Brady and Kozak drove in three runs each, while freshman second baseman Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport HS) added a pair of hits.

Wes Hughes had a 4-for-4 effort to lead St. Vincent. Brad Hill and Josh Morrow each had two hits.

Junior reliever Austin Bowie (Paeonian Springs, VA/Loudoun Valley HS) improved to 2-3 with the win, while Bearcat starter Ben Stoltzfus took the loss. Ram reliever Scott Koscielniak (Severn, MD/Old Mill HS/CCBC-Catonsville) set down St. Vincent down in order in the seventh to pick up the save.

Shepherd moves to 14-16, while St. Vincent goes to 15-17. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Davis & Elkins for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
