SLIPPERY ROCK TAKES PAIR FROM SHEPHERD

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV --Shepherd dropped a doubleheader to Slippery Rock in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Fairfax Field. The Rock took a 13-7 win in game one and a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.

The Rock pounded out 20 hits in the opener en route to a 13-7 win.

Nathan Statzer went 5-for-5, hit a two-run homer and scored three runs to lead The Rock. Joe Pascarella went 4-for-5 and Chase Rowe added a 3-for-5 effort. Ben Marzullo added a three-run homer and drove in four runs.

Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS), Josh Delawder (Paw Paw, WV/Paw Paw HS/Potomac State), Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS), Jason Walck (Waynesboro, PA/ Waynesboro HS), and Adam Caron (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro HS) each had a pair of hits to lead the Rams. Walck, Drummond, and Delawder also drove in a pair of runs.

Shepherd starter Jimmy Jackson (Millersville, MD/Old Mill HS) took the loss, while Derek Blyzwick gained the win.

Trailing 4-0 in the nightcap, Shepherd scored two runs in the second inning when Jon Serrano (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) singled and scored on a double off the bat of Shane Wines (Front Royal, VA/Warren County HS). Wines later scored on a ground out by Jimmy Jackson to cut the lead to 4-2. Shepherd plated a run in the third when Walck singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Josh Delawder (Paw Paw, WV/Paw Paw HS/Potomac State) to make it a 4-3 game.

Dave Gonos hit a three-run homer in the fifth to seal the victory for Slippery Rock.

Adam Ritts gained the win, while Austin Bowie (Paeonian Springs, VA/Loudoun Valley HS) suffered the loss.

Shepherd falls to 10-13 on the season, while Slippery Rock improves to 19-9. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 1:00 p.m. conference doubleheader.
