RAMS SWEEP SALEM INTERNATIONAL

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Mike Spry's (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Shepherd College to a 1-0 win in game two and helped the Rams sweep Salem International in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field. The Rams earned a 13-0 win in the first game.

Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) scattered five hits in six innings to record his fifth win of the year in game one. He had eight strikeouts and allowed only two walks. Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) struck out the side in the seventh to nail down the win. Salem starter Andrew Kostic took the loss.

Joe Cook (Loudoun County/Leesburg, VA) led the Rams at the plate with a 4-for-4 effort with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Tavis Laws (Sherando (Eastern Mennonite)/Stephens City, VA) added a 3-for-4 performance, while Spry, Drummond, and Josh Delawder (Paw Paw (Potomac State)/Paw Paw, WV) each had a pair of hits. Laws, Spry, and Drummond each belted home runs. Laws smacked a solo shot in the fourth, while Drummond smashed a solo shot in the fifth, and Spry hit a two-run blast in the fifth.

Ryan Crotin went 2-for-3 to lead Salem International.

The nightcap featured a pitching duel between Shepherd's J.R. Fitzwater (Hedgesville (Potomac State)/Hedgesvillle, WV) and Salem's Justin Bartkiewicz. Fitzwater allowed only five hits while recording 11 strikeouts. Bartkiewicz (4 Ks, 3 BB) limited the Rams to only two hits, but Spry's homer carried the Rams to victory.

T.J. Shimizu went 2-for-2 with a double and a stolen base to lead the Tigers in game two.

Shepherd moves to 9-11, 3-1 in WVIAC play, while Salem International falls to 9-17, 3-5. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Bluefield State for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
