RAMS FALL TO SHIPPENSBURG

SHIPPENSBURG, PA --Shepherd University dropped an 8-4 decision to nationally-ranked Shippensburg University in baseball action at Fairchild Field on Monday afternoon.

Shepherd gained a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tavis Laws (Stephens City, VA/Sherando/Eastern Mennonite) led off the game with a double and later scored on a single off the bat of Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS).

Shippensburg answered back in the bottom of the first with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Jared Boger knocked a two-run double to key the rally.

The Rams cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth when Laws stroked another double and scored on a single from Josh Delawder (Paw Paw, WV/Paw Paw HS/Potomac State).

The Red Raiders responded with four runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth to take a commanding 7-2 advantage. Chad Stecker had an RBI-single, Eric Perlozzo smacked a sacrifice fly, and Andy Dangler stroked a two-run single to plate the Red Raider runs.

Shepherd added a run in the seventh when Jon Serrano (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) doubled and scored when Eric Chrisman (Winchester, VA/Handley HS) grounded into a double play.

Shippensburg added its final run in the bottom of the seventh when Scott Goss doubled home Brandon White.

Shepherd's final run came in the ninth when Delawder led off with a single an scored on a fielders' choice off the bat of Chrisman.

Delawder went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Rams. Laws scored two runs and added a pair of doubles.

Chad Stecker, Andy Dangler, Nick Erdman, and Brandon White each had a pair of hits for the Red Raiders.

Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) took the loss, while Red Raider starter Frank D'Agostino gained the win. Shepherd reliever Danny Graham (Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas HS) fanned four in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Shepherd drops to 16-16, while Shippensburg improves to 38-6. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
