SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd College used a season-high 19-hit attack en route to a 19-2 win over Shenandoah University in baseball action at Fairfax Field.
Shepherd took control of the game in the second inning with a six-run outburst to gain a 10-1 advantage. Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV) belted a three-run homer to highlight a six-hit frame for the Rams.
Brian Powell (Allegany (Allegany College)/Cumberland, MD) and Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) each went 3-for-3 for the Rams. Taylor added a 3-for-5 effort with four RBIs. Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD), Zac Couturiaux (Linganore (Allegany College)/Union Bridge, MD), and Lance Williams (W.T. Woodson/Oak Hill, VA) each added two hits. Williams and Jake Ellifritz (Keyser (Potomac State/Coastal Carolina)/Keyser, WV) drove in three runs each, while Couturiaux and Preston Miller (Turner Ashby/Harrisonburg, VA) had two RBIs apiece.
Tommy Delaney went 2-for-2 with a solo homer to lead the Hornets.
Shepherd starter Justin Collins (Fallston/Forest Park, MD) tossed the first four innings to improve to 3-0 on the year. Collins had six strikeouts and allowed only one hit. Ram reliever Monte Spurgeon (Hedgesville/Hedgesville, WV) scattered three hits and allowed only one run in the game's final three innings. Shenandoah starter J.R. Creamer suffered the loss.
Shepherd improves to 9-2-1, while Shenandoah falls to 7-13. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Shippensburg University for a single game at 2:00 p.m.
