SHEPHERD BASEBALL SWEEPS OSWEGO STATE

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University smacked 32 hits on the day en route to a doubleheader sweep over Oswego State in baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Fairfax Field. The Rams took an 11-2 win in game one and added a 13-0 triumph in the nightcap.

Junior first baseman John Hawse (Winchester, VA/James Wood HS/Potomac State) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scored a pair of runs to lead the Rams in game one. He belted a two-run blast in the third inning.

Sophomore first baseman Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) was 2-for-3 with three RBIs with a two-run homer in the second. Senior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) and junior designated hitter Matt Noll (Charles Town, WV/ Jefferson HS) each added 2-for-2 outings.

Chuck Galuski went 2-for-3 to lead Oswego State.

Ram starter Scott McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS/Potomac State) fanned three and improved his record to 3-1 on the year. Laker starter Matt Mullin took the loss.

Cook went 5-for-5 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored to pace an 18-hit Ram attack in the nightcap. Freshman third baseman Andrew McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS) added a 3-for-4 effort with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Senior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State), Webb, and Hawse each added a pair of hits for the Rams. Cook, Webb, Hawse, and Noll each smacked round-trippers in the contest.

Tom Farrell went 2-for-3 to lead the Lakers.

Freshman pitcher Brandon Armentrout (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) improved to 1-1 with the win, while Oswego State starter Adam Harendza (0-1) took the loss.

Shepherd improves to 9-5 on the year, while Oswego drops to 0-2. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.

Notes: Joe Cook tied the Rams record most hits in a game with his 5-for-5 effort in the nightcap. Collin Brown and Dirk Webb also tied the mark earlier in the season. Cook was 7-for-7 on the day
