SHEPHERD BLANKS OSWEGO SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV --Shepherd College blanked SUNY-Oswego, 9-0, in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday afternoon. Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tavis Laws (Stephens City, VA/Sherando/Eastern Mennonite) led off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Josh Delawder (Paw Paw, WV/Paw Paw HS/Potomac State). The Rams added a run in the third when Laws walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single up the middle by Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS). Shepherd erupted for six runs in the fourth with Cook's two-run single highlighting the inning. The Rams added a run in the sixth when Delawder doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Shane Wines (Front Royal, VA/Warren County HS) to complete the scoring. Laws was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Cook was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Delawder and Jon Serrano (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) also added a pair of hits. Shepherd starter Brad McCullough (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock HS) picked up the win, while Laker starter Mike Cortellini took the loss. Dan Vacco led the Lakers with a 2-for-3 outing. Matt Kimpland, Nick Spataro, and Jim Miner also had hits. Shepherd improves to 2-3 on the year, while Oswego falls to 0-1. The Rams will return to action on Monday when they travel to Mount Olive for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
