SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd College pounded out 23 hits on the day en route to an 8-1, 8-4 sweep over SUNY Oswego in baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field.
Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/ Strasburg, VA) went 3-for-3 and scored two runs to lead the Rams in game one. Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, PA) and Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV) each added two hits and two RBIs.
Shepherd starter Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) went six innings, allowing only three hits and one earned run, to gain his second win of the year. He also had seven strikeouts. Laker starter Mike Baca took the loss.
Oswego's only run came on a Bob Farrell homer in the fourth inning.
Shepherd starter J.R. Fitzwater (Hedgesville (Potomac State)/Hedgesville, WV) worked the first six innings in game two to pick up his second win of the year. Fitzwater had six strikeouts and combined with relievers Jeff Gaskins (Loudoun Valley (Potomac State)/Lovettsville, VA) and Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) on a two-hitter. Oswego starter Eric Garippa suffered the loss.
Brian Powell (Allegany (Allegany College)/Cumberland, MD) and Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) each went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Rams in the nightcap. Spry and Taylor drove in two runs apiece.
Shepherd improves to 8-2-1, while SUNY Oswego falls to 0-3. The two teams will complete a four-game set on Sunday with a nine inning game beginning at noon.
