Brian Powell belted a three-run homer to help lift the Rams to an 18-10 win over SUNY Oswego.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Shepherd College used a season-high 18-hit attack to earn an 18-10 win over SUNY Oswego in baseball action at Fairfax Field.

Shepherd took a 6-0 lead in the second inning with the aid of four hits. Brian Powell (Allegany (Allegany College)/Cumberland, MD) belted a three-run homer to highlight the inning.

The Rams appeared to be cruising to an easy win when they added two runs in the third to take an 8-0 advantage.

The Lakers rallied with seven runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 8-7. Bob Farrell struck the big blow of the inning with a three-run homer.

Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) smacked a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth to increase the Ram lead to 10-7 and Shepherd never looked back.

Powell led the Rams with a 3-for-6 performance with four RBIs and four runs. Jake Ellifritz (Keyser (Potomac State/Coastal Carolina)/Keyser, WV) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Spry went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run. Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, PA), Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV), Zac Couturiaux (Linganore (Allegany College)/Union Bridge, MD), and Preston Miller (Turner Ashby/Harrisonburg, VA) added two hits each. Miller and Taylor also hit round-trippers for the Rams.

Miller worked the first five innings to pick up his first win of the year. Oswego starter Adam Talbot suffered the loss.

Shepherd improves to 6-2-1, while SUNY Oswego falls to 0-1. The two teams will resume play on Saturday with doubleheader action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
