SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Mount Olive College swept Shepherd University in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Thursday. The Trojans took game one with a 5-2 victory and held off the Rams for an 8-6 win in 12 innings in the nightcap.
Dustin Richardson belted a solo homer to key a three-hit, three-run fifth inning and lift the Trojans to the win in game one.
Stephen Nordan added a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI for the Trojans.
Junior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State), junior third baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/ Potomac State), junior shortstop Ryan Brady (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic HS/Hagerstown CC), junior outfielder Ryan Harju (Purcellville, VA/Loudoun Valley HS/Hagerstown CC), and freshman first baseman Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) each had pair of hits for the Rams. Webb and junior catcher David Toth (Lexington, KY/Lexington Christian Academy/Potomac State) each drove in a run.
Ram starter Travis Mumaw (Edinburg, VA/Central HS/Potomac State) took the loss, while Philip Pennington gained the win for the Trojans. Reliever Donald Huff picked up the save.
Collin Brown's 4-for 5 outing led the Rams in the nightcap. Brown launched a solo blast to left field in the seventh to force extra innings. Harju added a pair of hits.
Nordan led the Trojan attack with a 4-for-5 effort with three RBI and a run scored. His two-run single in the 12th keyed the five-run frame. Richardson and Lance Martin also had a pair of hits for Mount Olive.
Bryan Corbett fanned six and walked two over 8 2/3 innings to pick up the win. Ram reliever Austin Bowie (Paeonian Springs, VA/Loudoun Valley HS) took the loss.
Shepherd falls to 12-10, while Mount Olive improves to 20-22. The two teams are scheduled to play a nine inning contest on Friday at Fairfax Field at 1:00 p.m.
