SHEPHERD FALLS TO MOUNT OLIVE

MOUNT OLIVE, NC -Mount Olive pounded out 20 hits and took advantage of six Shepherd College errors en route to a 22-10 win over the Rams in baseball action at Scarborough Field on Monday afternoon.

The Trojans used six hits and three Rams errors in the first inning to take a 10-0 lead.

Shepherd got on the board in the second on a solo homer by Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS).

Mount Olive stretched its lead to 15-1 in the bottom of the second with five more runs. A three-run homer by Craig Hurba keyed the Trojan rally.

Shepherd plated nine runs in the fourth by rapping eight hits and taking advantage of two Trojan errors to cut the lead to 15-10.

The Trojans added two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one each in the seventh and eighth to pull away for the win.

Hurba led Mount Olive at the plate with a 5-for-6 effort with eight runs batted in and three runs scored. Dustin Richardson was 2-for-6 with a pair of home runs, three RBI, and three runs scored.

Drummond went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored. Tavis Laws (Stephens City, VA/ Sherando HS/Eastern Mennonite), Josh Delawder (Paw Paw, WV/ Paw Paw, HS/Potomac State), Bryan Lowry (Mt. Airy, MD/Indiana University) and Norris Roy (Gambrills, MD/Arundel HS/ Hagerstown CC) added two hits each.

Mount Olive starter Weston Curles gained the win, while Shepherd starter Brad McCullough (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock HS) suffered the loss.

Shepherd falls to 2-4, while Mount Olive improves to 17-6. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they play a nine-inning game starting at 2:00 p.m.
