SHEPHERD BASEBALL DROPS PAIR TO MILLERSVILLE
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University dropped a pair of games to Millersville University in baseball doubleheader action on Sunday afternoon at Fairfax Field. The Marauders took an 8-6 decision in game one and earned the sweep with a 6-2 win in the nightcap.
The Marauders plated six runs with the aid of three home runs in the fifth inning of game one to pull away for the win. Ryan Hogentogler (solo), Rick Caravaggio (solo), and Jose Rosado (two-run) smacked home runs to key the rally.
Rosado and James Haas each had two hits to lead the Marauders in game one.
Sophomore designated hitter Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport HS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Rams. Sophomore first baseman Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) belted a two-run homer, his fifth of the year, for the Rams in the seventh.
Millersville starter Brett Rhoads gained the win, while Shepherd reliever David Toth (Lexington, KY/Lexington Christian Academy/Potomac State) took the loss. Jeff Mazalewski picked up the save.
Rob Duvall and Andrew Dochterman each had a pair of hits to lead the Marauders in game two. Ted Kirner and Jason Redman each had a pair of RBIs.
Webb went 2-for-4 with an RBI and junior first baseman John Hawse (Winchester, VA/James Wood HS/Potomac State) smacked a solo blast in the sixth to pace the Ram attack.
Freshman pitcher Brandon Armentrout (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg HS) took the loss, while Millersville starter Philip Texter gained the win.
Shepherd falls to 7-5 on the year, while Millersville improves to 3-1. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Oswego State for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
