SHEPHERD BASEBALL SWEEPS MANSFIELD

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd pounded out 30 hits on the day en route to a sweep over Mansfield University in baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Saturday afternoon. The Rams took a 20-6 decision in game one and added a 7-5 win in the nightcap. Shepherd improves to 5-2, while Mansfield drops to 1-2.

Sophomore Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) went 5-for-6 with a pair of homers and seven RBIs to pace the Rams in game one. Senior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/ Southern Durham HS/NC State) added a 4-for-4 effort at the plate with four runs scored and an RBI, while senior shortstop Ryan Brady (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic HS/Hagerstown CC) was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a run scored.

Colby Rickabaugh led the Mountaineers with a 3-for-3 outing and a two-run homer.

Ram starter Travis Mumaw (Edinburg, VA/Central HS/Potomac State) scattered six hits in five innings to gain the win. Mansfield starter Nick Grove took the loss.

Collin Brown went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored to lead the Rams in the nightcap. Junior catcher Matt Noll (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS) added a 2-for-2 effort and a run scored. Brown and senior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) each belted home runs for the Rams.

Ryan Wyland, Scott Erickson, and Stuart Sumner had two hits each to lead the Mountaineers. Sumner blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Junior Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) fanned seven in four innings to gain his first win of the year. Kozak got relief help from sophomore Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/ Williamsport HS) and Webb. Bowers allowed only one earned run over two innings and Webb picked up the save as he set Mansfield down in order in the seventh. Mansfield starter Dan Yoder took the loss.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
