Brian Renner improved to 2-0 on the year.

FRONT ROYAL, VA -- Tavis Laws (Sherando (Eastern Mennonite)/Stephens City, VA) went 4-for-5 and Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) pitched seven strong innings to lead Shepherd College to a 9-2 win over Mansfield University in baseball action at Bing Crosby Stadium in Front Royal, Virginia on Saturday.

Laws belted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning and added three singles. He also added three runs scored and two RBI. Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD), Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA), and Brad McCullough (Susquehannock/New Freedom, PA) each added a pair of hits for the Rams. Spry also drove a pair of runs. Shane Wines (Warren County/Front Royal, VA) returned to his hometown and went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Jason Fischer led Mansfield with two hits and a run scored.

Renner recorded four strikeouts and allowed only one run in his seven inning stint. Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) worked the eighth, and Austin Bowie (Loudoun Valley/ Paeonian Springs, VA) made his collegiate debut in the ninth. Mountaineer starter Jeff Papi suffered his first loss of the year.

Shepherd improves to 4-3 on the year, while Mansfield falls to 8-7. The two teams return to action on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Bing Crosby Stadium.
