RAMS SPLIT WITH MANSFIELD

MANSFIELD, Pa. -- Shepherd University split a doubleheader with Mansfield in baseball action at Mansfield on Tuesday. The Mountaineers took game one with a 10-7 win, while Shepherd ended a nine-game losing skid with a 7-2 triumph in the nightcap.

The Rams scored six runs on six hits in the fourth inning to gain the win in the nightcap. Junior shortstop Ryan Brady (McSherrystown, PA/Delone Catholic HS/Hagerstown CC) smacked a two-run single to highlight the rally.

Junior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) led the Rams with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Junior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/ Potomac State), and redshirt-freshman designated hitter Jameson Jarvis (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper HS) each added a pair of hits.

Eric Baker led the Mountaineers with a 4-for-4 effort with two runs scored.

Shepherd starter Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) picked up the win to improve to 1-2. Mansfield starter Nate Jones took the loss.

Mansfield used a seven-run fifth inning in game one to take a 10-7 win. Dan Phillips knocked a two-run single to key the rally.

Baker led the Mountaineers with a 3-for-4 outing with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Junior catcher David Toth (Lexington, KY/Lexington Christian Academy/Potomac State) went 3-for-4 , while Brady, Collin Brown, junior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) and freshman outfielder Jerry Jubb (Arnold, MD/ Broadneck HS) each added a pair of hits. Brady blasted a two-run round-tripper in the first inning.

Junior reliever Austin Bowie (Paeonian Springs, VA/Loudoun Valley HS) took the loss. Ryan Mantua gained the win for Mansfield.

Shepherd moves to 13-15, while Mansfield goes to 18-12. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host St. Vincent for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
