Brad McCullough evened his record at 3-3 with a win over Fairmont.

SHEPHERD SPLITS WITH FAIRMONT

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV --Shepherd University split with Fairmont in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon at Fairfax Field. Shepherd took a 3-2 win in game one, while the Falcons salvaged a split with a 7-3 triumph in the nightcap.

Fairmont scored a run in the third inning of game one to take a 1-0 lead. Luis Cordero singled and later scored on a bases-loaded walk by Mike Burke.

Shepherd scored three in the fourth to gain the victory. Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS), who went 3-for-3, led off the frame with a double and later scored on a single by Norris Roy (Gambrills, MD/Arundel HS/Hagerstown CC). Tavis Laws (Stephens City, VA/Sherando/Eastern Mennonite) later added a two-run single to plate Jon Serrano (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) and Shane Wines (Front Royal, VA/Warren County HS).

The Falcons added a run in the sixth on when Nick Pleyo singled to score George Laase.

Reliever Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS) set the Falcons down in order in the sixth and seventh to pick up his fifth save of the year. Rams starter Brad McCullough (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock HS) improved to 3-3 on the year with the win. He fanned five in 4 2/3 innings. Adam Rice took the loss for Fairmont.

Mike Burke went 2-for-4 and drove in four runs to lead Fairmont in the nigthcap. His three-run blast in the fifth helped seal the win for the Falcons. Sam Coakley added a 3-for-3 effort.

Jason Walck (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro HS) was 3-for-4 with a double to pace the Rams.

Falcon starter Andrew Knight gained the win, while Tony Magnanelli (Frederick, MD/Frederick HS) suffered the loss.

Shepherd moves to 15-15 overall, 5-6 in WVIAC play, while Fairmont is now 13-19, 7-3. The two teams will play a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Fairfax Field.
