RAMS HIT 30-WIN MARK WITH SWEEP OVER FALCONS

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va -- Shepherd College swept Fairmont State in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action on Monday at Fairfax Field. The Rams took a 4-2 decision in game one and added a 13-0 triumph in the nightcap.

Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV) and Jason Rhea (Berkeley Springs (Pensacola JC)/Abingdon, VA) each had two hits to lead the Rams in game one.

Shepherd starter Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) improved to 8-3 on the year with a strong performance. Renner fanned four and allowed only one earned run in six innings. Closer Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) held the Falcons in check in the seventh to post his 10th save of the year.

Brian Powell (Allegany(Allegany College)/Cumberland, MD) pitched a complete game three-hit shutout to lead the Rams in the nightcap. Powell had six strikeouts and surrendered only one walk.

Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, VA), Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA), and Preston Miller (Turner Ashby/Harrisonburg, VA) each had three hits to pace a 17-hit attack for the Rams. Jackson and Powell added two hits apiece. Rhea added a solo homer in the fourth.

Shepherd improves to 30-7-1, 19-3 in WVIAC action, while the Falcons falls to 20-14, 9-11. The Rams reached the 30-win mark for the second time under head coach Wayne Riser. Riser's 1997 squad posted a 39-7 mark and led all NCAA Division II schools in winning percentage.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Ohio Valley for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
