SENATORS DOWN SHEPHERD
PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Mark Ruscello hit three home runs to lead Davis & Elkins to a 20-9 win over Shepherd University at the WVIAC Baseball Tournament at Hunnicutt Field in Princeton on Saturday. The loss eliminates Shepherd from the tourney.
Ruscello went 4-for-4 with eight RBIs and five runs to lead a 20-hit Senator attack. Chuck Thompson, Brian Thompson, and Chris Fisher each added three hits, while Adam Thompson and Dan Hruska had two hits apiece.
Junior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/Potomac State) and sophomore first baseman Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) each had 3-for-4 outings for the Rams. Kozak blasted his second home run of the tournament with a two-run blast to center field in the third inning.
Junior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) added a 2-for-5 effort with two RBIs and three runs scored. He added his first round-tripper of the year with a solo blast in the fifth. Junior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State), sophomore catcher Matt Noll (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS), and freshman third baseman Dirk Webb (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS) each had two hits for the Rams.
Tobi Stoner earned a complete game win for the Senators while Ram starter Scott Koscielniak (Severn, MD/Old Mill HS/CCBC-Catonsville) suffered the loss.
Shepherd completes its season with a 19-20 overall record.
