DAVIS & ELKINS DEFEATS SHEPHERD

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Scott Stutler scattered six hits and fanned 13 to lead Davis & Elkins to a 4-1 win over Shepherd in WVIAC baseball action at Fairfax Field on Sunday.

The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Dan Hruska reached base on an error and scored on an RBI-single by Cameron Ross.

Shepherd answered in the bottom of the first when Jason Walck (Waynesboro, PA/ Waynesboro HS) reached base on an error and later scored on a single by Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS) to tie the game at 1-1.

Davis & Elkins took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Hruska walked and scored on a ground out by Mark Ruscello.

The Senators added two insurance runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Hruska and an RBI-single by Brett Ripley.

Shepherd starter Scott Koscielniak (Severn, MD/Old Mill HS/CCBC-Catosnville) took the loss. He recorded seven strikeouts in six innings.

Walck and Drummond had two hits each to pace the Rams.

Ross went 4-for-5 to lead the Senators.

Shepherd falls to 7-8, 1-2 in conference action, while Davis & Elkins improves to 9-11. 2-1. The Rams will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Barton for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
