SHEPHERD CAPTURES NORTHERN DIVISION CROWN; RAMS SWEEP DAVIS & ELKINS

ELKINS, WV -- Shepherd College swept Davis & Elkins in WVIAC baseball action on Wednesday afternoon in Elkins. Mike Spry's (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) two-run homer in the eighth inning lifted Shepherd to a 4-2 triumph in game one and the Rams rapped 18 hits in a 10-1 victory in the nightcap. Shepherd clinched the WVIAC Northern Division title when Salem International split with Davis & Elkins on Tuesday.

Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, PA) went 4-for 4 to lead the Rams in game one.

Trailing 1-0, Shepherd plated two runs in the third inning. Brad McCullough (Susquehannock/ New Freedom, PA) and Walck singled and later scored on a two-run single off the bat of Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA).

The Senators tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the fifth to set the stage for Spry's extra inning heroics.

Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) went the distance to improve to 9-2, while Davis & Elkins ace Perry Cunningham suffered the loss.

Spry went 4-for-5 with three singles and a triple to pace the Rams in the nightcap. Drummond added a three-run homer that keyed a six-run sixth inning for the Rams.
