Lucas Taylor went 6-for-7 on the day, including a 4-for-4 effort in the first game, to help lead Shepherd College to a sweep over his former team.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. -- Former Davis & Elkins standout Lucas Taylor (Keyser (Potomac State/Davis & Elkins)/Keyser, WV)went 6-for-7 on the day, including a 4-for-4 effort in the first game, to help lead Shepherd College to a doubleheader sweep over the Senators in baseball action at Fairfax Field. The Rams took a 7-0 victory in the first game and a hard fought 1-0 win the nightcap.

The Rams opened the scoring in game one in the third inning when Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) smacked a two-run single to score Taylor and Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage.

Shepherd added three more runs in the fourth to increase the lead to 5-0. Lance Williams (W. T. Woodson/Oak Hill, VA) belted a solo homer, while Brian Powell (Allegany (Allegany College)/Cumberland, MD) added a two-run double to plate Taylor and Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, PA).

Shepherd closed out the scoring in the fifth when Taylor singled to right to score Zac Couturiaux (Linganore (Allegany College)/Union Bridge, MD) and pinch runner P.J. Hinson (Clarke County/Paris, VA).

Preston Miller (Turner Ashby/Harrisonburg, VA) scattered three hits over six innings to pick up his third victory. Davis & Elkins starter Perry Cunningham took the loss.

Couturiaux singled to score pinch runner Jeff Bailey (Fauquier/Warrenton, VA) in the fifth inning for the only run in the nightcap.

Drummond led off the inning with a single and was replaced by Bailey. Bailey moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Miller, and scored on Couturiaux's single to right center.

The Senators threatened in the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded reliever Jimmy Jackson (Old Mill/Millersville, MD) replaced Ram starter Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA). Davis and Elkins proceeded to botch a suicide squeeze play for one out and Jackson fanned the batter to get the Rams out of trouble.

Jackson set the Senators down in order in the seventh to pick up his third save of the year, while Renner improved to 4-2 on the year. Jackson set a new Shepherd career mark for saves with his 10th save. He surpasses the old mark of nine held by Brian Sands (1996-97).
