SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Shepherd College swept Concord College in WVIAC baseball action at Fairfax Field on Sunday afternoon. Shepherd rallied for a 4-2 win in game one and won the nightcap with a 5-3 triumph.
Brad McCullough's (Susquehannock/New Freedom, PA) two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Rams to victory in game one.
Brian Renner (Handley (Potomac State)/Winchester, VA) went the distance and recorded nine strikeouts to improve to 6-1 on the year. Jake Saunders took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
Jason Walck (Waynesboro/Waynesboro, PA) went 3-for-3 to lead the Rams in game one.
Wes Meeter led Concord with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
J.R. Fitzwater (Hedgesville (Potomac State)/Hedgesville, WV) scattered six hits and fanned six in game two to post his fifth win of the year. Bubba Pulley suffered the loss for Concord.
Shepherd got an RBI-single from Tavis Laws (Sherando (Eastern Mennonite)/Stephens City, VA) and an RBI double from Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Rams upped their lead to 4-0 in the third with an RBI-double from Josh Delawder (Paw Paw (Potomac State)/Paw Paw, WV) and an RBI-single from Laws.
Drummond doubled home Joe Cook (Loudoun County/Leesburg, VA) in the fifth to increase the Ram lead to 5-0.
Concord took advantage of two hits and two Ram errors to scored two runs in the fifth. Chris Bowers belted a solo homer in the seventh for the final run.
Delawder led the Rams with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate. Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) and Laws each added a pair of hits.
Shepherd moves to 13-13, 7-3 in WVIAC action, while Concord falls to 13-12, 7-3. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m.
