SHEPHERD BASEBALL SPLITS WITH BLUEFIELD STATE

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Shepherd University split a doubleheader with Bluefield State College in baseball action at Bluefield State on Wednesday. Shepherd cruised to a 13-3 win in game one, while Bluefield State rallied for a 13-9 win in the nightcap.

Senior outfielder Joe Cook (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County HS) went 5-for-5 with three doubles, a triple, and five RBIs to lead the Rams in game one. Junior outfielder John Hawse (Winchester, VA/James Wood HS/Potomac State) added three RBIs, while senior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) and sophomore outfielder Jerry Jubb (Arnold, MD/ Broadneck HS) each added a pair of hits.

Senior starter Scott McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS/Potomac State) allowed one hit over four innings en route his sixth win of the year. Matt Blevins took the loss for the Big Blues.

Adam Fulford belted a three-run homer in the sixth inning to key a seven-run rally and lead the Big Blues to a split.

Hawse hit a three-run homer and senior second baseman Nicky Brown (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville HS/ Potomac State) added two hits, including a solo blast, for the Rams. Collin Brown also added a pair of hits.

Jayson Richardson picked up the win for Bluefield State, while sophomore reliever Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport HS) took the loss.

Shepherd moves to 21-9 on the season. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
