SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV -- Shepherd College smacked a season-high 21 hits in a 17-1 win over Bluefield State in the nightcap in WVIAC baseball doubleheader action at Fairfax Field on Sunday to gain a split. Bluefield State took game one with a 5-1 triumph.
Bluefield State used three long balls to gain the win in game one. Aaron Jamieson, Jason Williams, and Chris Storey each belted solo shots for the Big Blues.
Mike Spry (Kent County/Chestertown, MD) went 2-for-3 with an RBI-single and Joe Cook (Loudoun County/Leesburg, VA) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Bluefield State starter Dan Wirth earned the win, while Ram starter Tony Magnanelli (Frederick/Frederick, MD) took the loss.
Charlie Drummond (Strasburg/Strasburg, VA) went 4-for-4 and Tavis Laws (Sherando (Eastern Mennonite)/Stephens City, VA) went 4-for-5 to lead the Rams in game two. Josh Delawder (Paw Paw (Potomac State)/Paw Paw, WV), Shane Wines (Warren County/Front Royal, VA), Nick Gozzard (Canon-McMillan (Allegany College of Maryland)/Eighty-Four, PA), Spry, and Cook added two hits apiece. Spry, Cook, Drummond, Wines, and Gozzard all smashed round-trippers for the Rams.
Shepherd starter Mitch LeMasters (Toronto (Allegany College of Maryland)/Toronto, OH) worked the first four innings and posted four strikeouts to gain his first win of the year. Tsali Hall suffered the loss for Bluefield State.
Shepherd moves to 10-12, 4-2 in WVIAC play, while Bluefield State is now 10-18, 4-4. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Liberty for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
