SHEPHERD SPLITS WITH BLUEFIELD

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV --Adam Caron (Waynesboro, PA/ Waynesboro HS) singled home Shane Wines (Front Royal, VA/Warren County HS) in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to lift Shepherd College to a 3-2 win over Bluefield College in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday. Bluefield won game one with a 6-0 triumph.

The Ramblin' Rams took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap when Javier Rodriguez singled and later scored on an RBI-single from Robby Lanham.

Shepherd tied the game in the second when Jon Serrano (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point HS) walked, moved to third on a Wines' single, and later scored when Norris Roy (Gambrills, MD/Arundel HS/Hagerstown CC) grounded into a double play.

Bluefield took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Rodriguez led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Blake Williams.

Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS) led off the sixth with single, moved to second when Serrano walked, went to third on a bunt single by Wines, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Lowry (Mt. Airy, MD/ South Carroll HS/Indiana University) that was dropped by the Bluefield outfielder. This tied the game at 2-2 and set the stage for Caron's game-winning hit.

Shepherd reliever Jeff Kirkpatrick (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro HS) picked up the win, while Ramblin' Ram reliever Ryan Thomas took the loss.

Drummond and Wines led the Rams with two hits apiece in the nightcap.

Reggie Huguet, Tyler Fridley, Rodriguez, and Lanham each had a pair of hits for Bluefield.

Blake Williams limited the Rams to two hits and fanned 10 in game one to pick the victory. Ram starter Jimmy Jackson (Millersville, MD/Old Mill HS) took the loss.

Huguet went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in to lead the Ramblin' Rams in game one. John Whitt and Cody Klatka each added a pair of hits.

Shepherd moves to 5-6 on the year, while Bluefield is now 6-14. The Rams will return to action on Monday when they host SUNY-Oswego for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
