McCORMICK TOSSES THREE-HITTER; RAMS DOWN BENTLEY, 4-1
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Junior pitcher Scott McCormick (Stephens City, VA/Sherando HS/Potomac State) tossed a complete game three-hitter to lead Shepherd University to a 4-1 win over Bentley in baseball action at the USC-Upstate Invitational. The Rams move to 3-3 with the win, while Bentley dropped to 1-2.
Tom Haugh belted a solo homer in the fifth inning to give Bentley a 1-0 lead.
Shepherd tied the game in the seventh when junior outfielder Collin Brown (Durham, NC/Southern Durham HS/NC State) singled home sophomore catcher Matt Noll (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson HS) from second base.
Freshman second baseman Josh Bowers (Williamsport, MD/Williamsport HS) smacked a two-run single in the ninth for the game-winning hit.
Shepherd was led at the plate by Brown with a 2-for-5 performance with a pair of RBI and Bowers with a 1-for-1 effort with a pair of walks.
McCormick recorded four strikeouts and evened his record at 1-1.
The Rams will return to action on Sunday when they take on host USC Upstate at 2:00 p.m.
