DRUMMOND HOMER LIFTS SHEPHERD PAST BARTON

WILSON, NC --Charlie Drummond (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg HS) belted a three-run homer in the third inning to lift Shepherd College to a 3-2 win over Barton College in baseball action at Fleming Stadium on Wednesday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Tavis Laws (Stephens City, VA/Sherando/Eastern Mennonite) led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice from Jason Walck (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro HS). Eric Chrisman (Winchester, VA/Handley HS) followed with a walk to set the stage for Drummond's game-winning blast.

Barton added a run in the fourth for the final tally of the game. All of the games runs were scored via the long ball as Dennis Blackmon and Tyler Petty each hit solo home runs.

Ram lefthander Steve Kozak (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson HS) fanned three and did not allow a walk in three innings to gain his first collegiate win. Jeff Kirkpatrick (Waynesboro, PA/ Waynesboro HS) pitched hitless ball over the final three innings to pick up the save. Bulldog starter Matt Wingo suffered the loss.

Shepherd improves to 8-9 on the season, while Barton falls to 16-15. The two teams will conclude a three-game set with a Thursday afternoon game at 2:00 p.m.
